The Board of Water Supply says crews have repaired a leak to an 8-inch water line on Ward Avenue near the Hawaiian Electric Company Thursday morning.
As of 4:30 a.m., all lanes on Ward Ave. have been reopened.
The water line was installed in 1975. The leak was discovered Tuesday afternoon during work for the BWS Water System Improvement Project on Ward Avenue, however the leak was not caused by this construction work.
The Board of Water Supply says it responds to each report of possible water main breaks and leaks it receives and tries its best to lessen disruption and mitigate the impact to our customers. The BWS also looks at the efficiency of the entire water system to ensure that customers continue to receive a safe and dependable water supply at an affordable cost. The BWS is in the process of formulating a comprehensive, long range water master plan that involves assessing existing facilities and conducting an analysis to identify root causes of water main breaks. Through this endeavor, the BWS will develop a plan for new and replacement facilities now and into the future.
