Military life means a lot of sacrifice and missing so many of those milestones, like graduation.
First Lieutenant Chris Bretz is with the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team with the Hawaii National Guard. He's been in Afghanistan since November -- part of the team that is training security teams from the Afghan armed forces.
Bretz had feared he would miss his son's high school graduation. Philip Bretz, 17, was a member of the first graduating class of Kailua's Trinity Christian School. He was the valedictorian of his class.
A graduation without his dad? No way.
The Bretz military family made sure a computer was set up with Skype so Chris could attend the graduation last week -- virtually.
With a computer set up, he had a chance to see and hear his son's valedictorian speech.
A chance to take part in one of those milestones, it made all the world for the family to be together.
The thousands of miles separating father and son -- brought together with technology. This is one graduation picture for the books!
