Attacked by a shark after falling off his kite board. A 40-year-old tourist is sent to the hospital on Maui. That makes eleven reported shark attacks around the islands this year. KITV4's Nana Ohkawa reports. The kite-surfer was only about 150 yards offshore...when witnesses say he fell into the water...as he was holding onto his board a shark attacked. Ocean Safety says the man was left with an 8 inch wound, stretching from his calf to heel. 3549 HE GOT ATTACKED AND SELF RESCUED HIMSELF TO SHORE SOON AFTER PEOPLE CALLED 911 AND LIFEGUARDS RESPONDED TO THE CALL 58 The attack happened near the Kaa Point area of Kanaha Beach Park. Ocean safety says the water in the area was crowded with more than 100 kite surfers at the time of the attack. Researchers say it'll take a year before the data can be evaluated. Kanaha Beach Park where the shark attack occurred today will remained closed overnight.
