Rubbish fire closes Nimitz Highway before morning traffic

Traffic detoured through Ahua St. while crews extinugished fire

Honolulu police closed off the eastbound lanes of Nimitz Highway Thursday morning due to a rubbish fire underneath the H-1 Freeway viaduct.

Fire crews got the call at around 3:30 a.m.  Traffic was rerouted to Ahua Street.

Witnesses say there was a lot of smoke coming from the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Crews extinguished fire and Nimitz Highway was reopened at around 5 a.m.
