WAIMANALO, Hawaii -

A case of road rage gets out of hand on the Windward side, leaving a 21-year-old man in police custody.

Police say the altercation started somewhere on the H-3 Freeway in Kaneohe, when a woman driving a car had an incident with three motorcyclists.

Police say the woman called her family members while driving to Waimanalo, with the motorcyclists nearby, to let them know where she was.

When she arrived near Ehukai street in Waimanalo her family caught up with the motorcyclists, and then it got physical.

Police say one of the motorcyclists pulled out a gun and shot twice at the ground near the woman's family member, who then got in a car and drove away.

"We don't often get people shooting at each other," said HPD Capt. Dagan Tsuchida. "Honolulu is considered one of the safest city's as far as crime goes, so this is what we consider an anomaly."

Police say one of the motorcyclists chased after the car, but he was later arrested near Keolu Drive and Kalanianaole highway.

During the search for the suspects, police shut down a stretch of Kalanianaole in Waimanalo.

Police say the Ewa Beach man arrested faces felony counts of terroristic threatening and reckless endangerment charges. He has not been charged as of Thursday morning.
