The "ring and run" scam has returned to Hawaii, and the goal of the scam is to charge you big money without you knowing.
Here's how it usually works. What might happen is that your phone will ring once, leaving you a missed call number or if you answer, a robocaller might stay on the phone for a few seconds until the call drops.
Experts say do not call back because the source of these calls are from international islands, and just one minute on the phone can add $20 to your bill.
Experts also urge you to avoid taking calls from numbers with an area code of 473, 809, 284, 649 and 879. They also say to avoid calls from area codes you do not recognize.
