Researchers say Wisdom is a Laysan albatross at Midway Atoll. They tagged her 63 years ago, but believe she is actually older than that. The egg she watched over hatched on Wednesday.
Scientists believe Wisdom has hatched at least three dozen babies in her lifetime.
"She's an example of the long life that these birds have and our responsibility and ability to keep the habitat good for them to life," said Refuge Manager Daniel Clark of the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge. "It's an amazing story for a bird that returns to this particular spot year after year to nest."
Wisdom is one of hundreds of thousands of albatrosses on Midway Atoll now preparing their chicks for their next phase of life.
