Navy's top admiral visits Hawaii
The Navy's top uniformed officer is meeting with retired sailors and business leaders in Honolulu.
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert is also meeting current sailors at Pearl Harbor on Monday.
Greenert is visiting the islands as automatic federal budget cuts force the service to furlough civilian workers, delay ship maintenance and cut aircraft flying hours.
The cuts known as sequestration kicked in on March 1. They are reducing federal agency budgets 9 percent across-the-board.
The Pentagon must shrink its 2013 budget by roughly $41 billion by the end of the current fiscal year on Sept. 30.
The cuts took effect after Congress failed to reach an agreement that would trim the deficit by $1.2 trillion over a decade.
