The Navy is scaling back the 4th of July celebration at Kauai's Pacific Missile Range Facility.
Due to automatic federal budget cuts and other fiscal constraints, Independence Day events across Navy installations worldwide have been scaled back.
The base's observance on July 3 will not include fireworks and will be closed to the public. Instead, it will be a picnic event open only to Department of Defense ID cardholders, their families and those with military recreational passes.
PMRF Commanding Officer Capt. Nicholas Mongillo says he hopes to be able to return to normal operations next fiscal year.
