National parks in Hawaii and around the country are starting to reopen on Thursday after Congress passed a bill to end the shutdown and the president signed it.
Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and Haleakala National Park are among the visitor attractions that reopened.
Haleakala visitor campgrounds will reopen by Thursday afternoon. The pools at Oheo, which are prone to flash flooding, will be monitored again and opened as safe water levels permit.
The Pearl Harbor Visitor Center will reopen on Friday at 7 a.m. At that time, tours to the USS Arizona, access to the museum galleries and regular ticketing operations will resume.
The Battleship Missouri Memorial, Pacific Aviation Museum, Pearl Harbor, and the USS Bowfin Submarine remain open. These Pearl Harbor Historic Sites are available on Thursday at the Richardson Pool Shuttle just past the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center.
