A Hawaiian monk seal was seen on the beach near the Waikiki Natatorium War Memorial Wednesday.
A lifeguard told KITV that the monk seal was on the beach near the Outrigger Hotel in Waikiki on Tuesday.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources says getting close to a monk seal may constitute a federal or state violation if the animal is disturbed or if your action has the potential to disturb its natural behavioral patterns.
DLNR and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration recommend that everyone stay at least 150 feet from all marine mammals and sea turtles. Wildlife viewers can use binoculars and telephoto lenses to get the best views without disturbing the wildlife.
