Maui police host Troy Barboza Torch Run

Proceeds go to Special Olympics Maui

WAILUKU, Hawaii -

The Maui Police Department hosted the Annual First Hawaiian Bank Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run on the Islands of Molokai and Maui.

The Molokai event was held on Saturday, May 4 with participants starting at the Molokai Education Center and ending at the Kaunakakai Ball Park.

Maui's event was on Saturday, May 11 starting at the First Hawaiian Bank in Kahului and ending at the Maui High School Softball Field.

Both events continued with a potluck and a softball game between the participants of the respective events against their Special Olympics Unified Softball teams.

First Hawaiian Bank, Friendly Market, and Misaki’s Market donated refreshments for the participants.  Participants included members from the Maui Police Department, State Department of Land and Natural Resources, United States Air Force, United States Coast Guard, Transportation Security Agency, American Medical Response, Haleakala National Park, Adult Client Services-Judiciary, Maui Ki-Aikido, Prosecutor’s Office, Maui Vet Center, and the University of Hawaii Maui College.

This year, all proceeds from the entry fees and sales of t-shirts go to the Special Olympics Maui to help the athletes on the islands of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai.
