A manhunt is underway on the Big Island after police say two men escaped from the Hawai'i Community Correctional Center's Hale Nani location off Route 11 in Hilo.
State public safety officials say 23-year-old Robert Garcia and 27-year-old Andrew Wanat were not accounted for in a head count around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Garcia is described as 5-feet 7-inches-tall and weighs 130 pounds with a slim build. He has short black hair and brown eyes. He often wears a goatee and mustache and he has tattoos on this right forearm and the left side of his neck.
Wanat is described as 5-feet-11-inches-tall, weighing 210 pounds with a medium build. Police say he has a shaved head and brown eyes. He has tattoos on both inner forearms and on his entire outer left arm.
Both men were last seen wearing white HCCC t-shirts and blue HCCC shorts. Police say they were both in custody for probation violations. They are known to frequent the Kona area and are not considered dangerous.
Anyone with information is asked to call Big Island police.
The Hale Nani Correctional Facility is a minimum security facility. It provides an offender reintegration and a work release program for sentenced inmates who will be released on the Big Island.
