LAHAINA, Hawaii -

Maui police say a 66-year-old man died at the scene of a three-vehicle crash near the Papalaua Wayside Park in Ukumehame Thursday morning.

The man who died was identified as Robert Keith Adams.

The crash happened at 11:11 a.m. on Honoapiilani Highway about 0.9 miles west of the Pali Tunnel.

Investigators say a white Ford Explorer was traveling west when it crossed over the yellow line and collided with the left front of a maroon Chrysler 200 that was traveling east.

A white Ford Focus that was traveling behind the Chrysler swerved into the westbound lane and came into contact with debris from the collision.  The Focus stopped on the eastbound shoulder.

Adams was the driver of the Explorer.

The occupants of the Chrysler were an 81-year-old man and an 88-year-old man from La Jolla, Calif.  Police say their injuries were non-life threatening.

The occupants of the Focus were not injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

This is Maui County's sixth traffic fatality in 2013 compared to 11 at this same time last year.
