A 54-year-old man visiting from Seattle who drowned in waters off Lydgate Beach Park last week has been identified as Hom Shu.

Shu was swimming in Morgan's Ponds when he was located underwater shortly before 7 p.m. on July 25.

Bystanders pulled him to shore and began performing CPR until medics and Kapa'a firefighters arrived to the scene.

Shu was transported to Wilcox Hospital in critical condition where he was treated until he died the next night.

Volunteers with Life's Bridges, a grief counseling service, and representatives from the Kauai Visitor's Bureau assisted Shu's family following the incident.

This is Kaua'i's 14th drowning so far this year.
