Lost hiker rescued from Mauna Loa trail

Honolulu man, 62, treated for hypothermia, dehydration, cold weather exposure

HILO, Hawaii -

Big Island fire officials say a 62-year-old Honolulu man was rescued from a trail on Mauna Loa Monday after he had lost his way.

Fire crews were called to the Mauna Loa Access Road at around 5:20 p.m.  Fire officials contacted other hikers trying to help the man.

The man was found about 2 miles from the weather station.

The man was treated and hospitalized for cold weather exposure, hypothermia, and dehydration.
