Laumaka escapee captured; returned to OCCC

Escaped inmate Ernest Vierra

An escapee from the Laumaka Work Furlough Center was brought back to the Oahu Community Correction Center by sheriffs Monday at 8:30 p.m., according to the Hawai'i Department of Public Safety.

Ernest Vierra, 29, was missing since Friday morning.  Honolulu police and state sheriffs were notified.

Vierra was a work furlough inmate and had a Community Custody status, which is the lowest level below minimum custody.

He was serving time for second-degree robbery and auto theft.  Escape will be added to his charges.
