KANEOHE, Hawaii -

Black smoke could be seen from miles away in Kaneohe Bay Saturday afternoon after a boat erupted in flames.

Honolulu Fire officials said the boat belonged to the Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps.  Fire crews got the call at 3:30 Saturday afternoon, for a boat on fire near Ahu O Laka, also known as the Kaneohe Sandbar.

They said five people were on board.  Those five were able to get to safety, and no one was injured.

Fire officials said the Marine Corps will take possession of the boat and tow it in.  The fire was extinguished about an hour later.
