LIHUE, Hawaii -

Kauai police have identified the man who died Friday afternoon while fishing with friends roughly 8 miles off the Garden Isle's south shore.

Paul Guenther, 59, of Kapa'a complained about feeling faint at around 3 p.m. when he collapsed a short time later, according to witnesses.

Using the boat’s radio, friends immediately contacted the U.S. Coast Guard for assistance.

Coast Guard personnel responded and began performing CPR, but attempts to resuscitate the Guenther were unsuccessful.  He was taken to Nawiliwili Boat Harbor, where awaiting medics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police also responded to the scene, but foul play is not suspected in the cause of his death.
