Kahuku schools given all clear after suspicious item found

Lockdown lifted at around 11 a.m.

KAHUKU, Hawaii -

Kahuku Elementary and Kahuku High School were under lockdown Thursday morning after a suspicious item was found at a park next to the schools, according to the Department of Education.

Police say a caller reported a suspicious object at Kahuku District Park at around 6:40 a.m.

The park was evacuated and Pualalea Street was closed between Leleuli and Kekauoha Streets.

Officers with the Specialized Services Division rendered the incendiary device safe at 10:45 p.m.

No arrest was made.

The schools were given the all clear just before 11 a.m.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call police.
