The incident happened at around 4:45 p.m. today in the area known as "White Rock" beach. No word on the condition of the victim. Crews are searching the beach by air to detect the shark. We'll bring you more information on this story as it becomes available. This reported attack comes just as swimmers are being allowed back into the water at Kanaha Beach Park on Maui today. That area was shut down after a large shark was spotted - biting a free floating kite board yesterday afternoon. HE WENT RIGHT THERE AND BIT THIS, YOU CAN KINDA SEE THE BITE MARKS, THE JAW LINE. Morgan Flannery's kite board has been through a lot - a shark tried to tear it apart. IT WENT AT A COUPLE TIMES, LIKE THREE OR FOUR, AND IT TOTALLY SUBMERGED IT A COUPLE OF TIMES. AND THEN IT FIGURED OUT IT WAS NOT A MEAL. But thankfully, this tourist from San Francisco was watching that unfold from shore. She had been having trouble in the water, so she ditched the board and came in. SHE CAME IN DOING WHAT'S CALLED A BODY DRAG TRYING TO GET IN. SO SHE ABANDONED HER BOARD PART WAY IN. IT TOOK HER A LONG TIME TO GET IN, AND THE BOARD WAS KIND OF TRAILING BEHIND HER. Just minutes later... the shark moved in. I FELT VERY LUCKY CAUSE I CAME RIGHT THROUGH THAT SAME PATH THAT THE BOARD CAME THROUGH JUST A FEW MINUTES SO I AM VERY THANKFUL TODAY THAT IT WAS THE BOARD AND NOT ME. Based on the size of those bite marks, county officials believe that shark was 10-12 feet - no work on the kind of shark involved. Morgan says she will be back on the water tomorrow.
