Hilo man, 20, charged in July Fourth Puna burglary

HONOLULU -

Big Island police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a burglary in Puna earlier this month.

A home on Oahu Road in the Nanawale Estates subdivision was broken into on July 4 sometime between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., according to police.

Investigation by detectives led to the arrest Sunday of Kainoa Santos of Hilo.  Santos was taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives continued the investigation.

At 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, detectives charged him with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft.  His bail was set at $35,000.  He remains at the cellblock pending his initial court hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

Ioster Henly, 39, was charged with possessing a loaded firearm on a public highway, place to keep loaded firearm, place to keep ammunition, registration mandatory and permit to acquire after he was accused of carrying a loaded shotgun on a public highway in Kealakekua on Jan. 1.
