Hawaiian Electric Company crews responded to a power outage in the Haiku area of Windward Oahu shortly after 10 a.m. Monday that was caused by a pole fire.
Initially, 5,000 customers were affected by the outage, according to HECO.
Power was restored to about 4,500 customers by 10:45 a.m.
As of 4:30 p.m., about 500 customers in the Hokulele and Crown Terrace subdivisions did not have power while crews complete repairs to poles and overhead lines serving the area.
The damaged poles were located in mountainous terrain behind Windward Community College and are not accessible by road, according to HECO. Tree trimming crews were clearing a path for repair crews to hike to the worksite, which lengthened the restoration process.
All power was restored to affected customers shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
The cause of the pole fire that started the outage remains under investigation.
Hawaiian Electric apologizes to our customers for this inconvenience and appreciates their patience and understanding.
