Atisanoe accused of stealing more than $19,000 from Nanakuli charter school

A school clerk pleaded not guilty Thursday to accusations she stole more than $19,000 from a charter school.

Prosecutors say Christine Atisanoe pocketed the money while working at Ka Waihona o Ka Na'auao public charter school in Nanakuli.

Court documents show nearly $20,000 in cash was taken between January 2010 and March of last year.

Atisanoe insists she didn't steal the funds.

"I feel bad that it had to happen, but one person gotta take the fall, I guess," said Atisanoe. "Everybody got kids that go to that school. We cannot have a whole bunch of kids going through stuff because of choices that the adults made."

Atisanoe said she resigned from the school last May to care for her ailing grandmother. She was released on her own recognizance.

Trial is set for the week of Aug. 12.
