A homegrown hero was honored today on the floor of the United States House of Representatives Marine Corp Staff Sergeant Allan Kellogg Junior was one of 79 living Medal of Honor recipients honored today. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard says Kellogg was leading his unit when an enemy grenade came near them. Kellogg grabbed the grenade, forced it deep into the mud, and then covered it with his body to protect his brothers. He suffered multiple injuries to his chest and right shoulder, but still managed to help his unit evacuate. Kellogg has been a Kailua resident for 25 years.
