Friends say woman found dead in driveway off Punahou Street was an aspiring actress
Friends of Mary Beth San Juan are full of shock, sadness, and outrage. The woman they knew as a real estate broker for Happy Hawaii Homes and an aspiring actress, is the woman they now mourn.
They tell KITV4 San Juan is the woman found bound, gagged and rolled up in a carpet in her driveway off Punahou Street, where she also works.
"She had just celebrated her birthday, just bought herself a Mercedes, she just lost 15 to 20 pounds. I mean she was looking fabulous and feeling fabulous, and she said she had a new lease on life," said Nazarene Anderson, San Juan's talent agent with ADR agency.
Others friends sensed something was wrong. Just this past Saturday, people in her acting class say she was off.
"They point blank said she was acting not quite herself. It was really weird, unlike her," said friend Puna Choo.
Then, just after 7 p.m. Tuesday night, the security guard at the Banyan Tree Plaza next door said a man approached her, looking for help.
"He was shaking, saying his ex-wife lives there, and he's been trying to call her and her car is gone," said security guard Rebecca Sabado.
Police found the brand new 2013 Mercedes on Friday. They would not disclose where they found it. Witnesses said the stench was so strong the body may have been there for days.
"One thing for certain is we are all mourning and we want them to find who did this to her," said friend Choo.
Mary Beth was with the acting studio for a couple of years. An instructor said she missed a lot of classes this past month which was not necessarily unusual. Police have opened a homicide investigation.
