Fire crews battle two brush fires in Maui

First fire is out; Second is 80 percent contained

HANA, Hawaii -

Firefighters from Kahului, Kihei and Wailuku responded to a brush fire in the back of K-Mart, off of Hana Highway in Maui on Sunday.

About half of an acre burned, but was quickly extinguished.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. The Maui Fire Department said no injuries were reported.

A second brush fire in Maui that burned approximately 65 acres began Saturday on Piilani Highway on the Ulupalakua side of Manawainui Gulch.

The Maui Fire Department says the fire is about 80 percent contained.

No structures have been affected.
