WAILEA, Hawaii -

Federal authorities are investigating a commercial airplane's emergency landing on a Maui highway.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating Monday night's landing of a Mokulele Express plane on Piilani Highway.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says none of the 10 people on board was injured and there was no damage to the single-engine plane. Gregor says the Cessna Caravan lost engine power after departing from Maui for the Big Island.

Maui police spokesman Lt. William Juan says dispatch received the call at about 7 p.m. saying the plane needed to make an emergency landing.  Fire department spokesman Lee Mainaga says the plane carried eight passengers and two pilots.

Nearby resident Adam Burke tells the Maui News the highway is usually busy with cars but was empty when the aircraft landed.
