HONOLULU -

A former Honolulu airport screener charged with theft is denying she stole cash from a traveler's wallet.

Tracy Leanne Owens is accused of stealing less than $100 last month at a security screening line.  She is charged with fourth-degree theft and is scheduled to appear in court next week.

Owens said Friday she worked part-time for the Transportation Security Administration for five years and wouldn't have risked her job "for a measly $100."

The TSA confirms that she has since resigned.  Agency spokesman Nico Melendez says the TSA doesn't tolerate theft.

Owens says a Hawaiian Airlines passenger complained that money was taken from his wallet.

She acknowledged pleading no contest to theft in 1995 but says she was with a man who stole a purse at a restaurant.
