HONOLULU -

Dozens of Pomeranians in horrid conditions are now getting pampered, primped, and primed.

Soon they'll be ready for new homes.  It's a much-needed full makeover.

Forty-three Pomeranians were removed from a carport in Halawa, and each of them are getting prepped to transition from a home the Humane Society considered horrible to a loving home.

Dogs of all ages were surrendered by the breeder, dirty beyond recognition, covered with matted hair, ticks, and feces.

"Anytime we see this amount of dogs that are living in these filthy conditions it's very heart-wrenching," said Keoni Vaughn with the Hawaiian Humane Society.

One, that groomers named Princess and others get a full day at the Petco salon. They were shaved, shampooed, had nails cut, ears cleaned, and brushed.

Fourteen Pomeranians are healthy enough to get pampered on Wednesday.  The rest still need to get assessed before they get their beauty treatment.

"It always changes their demeanor. They prance around, so they are ready for new homes," said Jennan Beers, manager at Petco.

Princess will be up for adoption -- clean and pretty. On Thursday, about a dozen of the dogs will be available for adoption starting at 9 a.m. at the Hawaiian Humane Society.
