Honolulu police say Kamehameha Highway was closed in both directions between Hauula and Laie due to a fatal motor vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.
The highway was closed off from the Hauula Kai Shopping Center to the Polynesian Cultural Center.
The crash happened at around 3:30 p.m. on Kamehameha Highway near Pounders Beach.
Two vehicles crashed head-on and an 82-year-old man died at the scene. He was the rear seat passenger of a Toyota RAV4 that was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway, according to investigators.
The medical examiner identified the man who died as Arthur Enos of Laie.
Police say the Toyota crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a Nissan Armada.
A 77-year-old woman, who was the driver of the Toyota, was hospitalized in serious condition. A woman in her 70s was in the front seat of the Toyota and was also hospitalized in serious condition.
A 59-year-old man was the driver of the Nissan and was also hospitalized in serious condition.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
The road was reopened at around 7:15 p.m.
