Council passes 2 bills extending smoking ban on Oahu

Bills take effect on Jan. 1, 2014

HONOLULU -

The Honolulu City Council voted Wednesday to extend a smoking ban to all city parks on Oahu, effective Jan. 1, 2014.

The vote was 9-0 in favor of the bill.  The bill would exempt open areas of city golf courses.

The public parks include many popular beaches, golf courses, swimming pools and other recreation facilities.

The council also voted 9-0 in favor of a bill to ban smoking at all Oahu bus stops.  This bill will also take effect on Jan. 1, 2014.
