The City’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) is currently accepting appointments to collect household hazardous waste. The two upcoming collections dates are scheduled for January 25 and March 8, by appointment only.
Acceptable waste items include pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, solvents, thinners, corrosives, cleaners, varnishes and gasoline. For an expansive list of items accepted, visit opala.org.
To schedule a collection time, residents must call the ENV Household Hazardous Waste Line at (808) 768-3201. The deadlines to make an appointment are January 17 and February 28, respectively.
Residents must provide a list of items and estimated quantities. Only small quantities are accepted from each household. Larger quantities may be rejected or incur a fee.
Businesses must contract privately for proper disposal of hazardous waste materials.
ENV conducts the collections bi-monthly. Honolulu does not have a hazardous waste landfill, so the ENV has procured a vendor that will ship the hazardous waste off island for proper disposal.
