The 83-year-old man who was assaulted in Chinatown died Thursday, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner.
The man was identified as Mamerto "Eddie" Semana.
Paramedics were notified early Wednesday morning, but Emergency Medical Services officials believe the attack may have happened hours earlier.
Semana was hospitalized in critical condition with severe head injuries. So far, no arrests have been made.
Arnold Felix, who lives on the street, said he thinks he knows what happened.
"[Tuesday] he said he went to the bank to get his money," Felix said. "I keep telling him, 'Don't sleep alone. Get back to where you sleep,' because at least we have neighbors, because something might happen, but this man is [hard-headed]," Felix said.
Felix said he's lived next to Semana for about a year.
