personnel ready to fly to the Philippines to assist in Typhoon Haiyan Relief. The organization got a big boost this evening with donations from Chefs of Hope, a huge culinary event at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. KITV4's Pamela Young reports on the community effort to make the fundraiser happen. Hundreds of pounds of produce and protein, prepared by Hawaii's top chefs, gallons of wine and other spirits, sweet sounds from the islands' Hoku winning entertainers. Every person involved in Chefs of Hope volunteered time and talent so the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan can take a another step toward recovery. 19:53 TO COME HERE, BE A PART OF THIS EVENT, TO GIVE BACK TO ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE PHILIPPINES I JUST WANTED TO DO IT, GIVE FROM THE HEART. 20:57 THIS IS AMAZING. I EMAILED ON SATURDAY NIGHT, SUNDAY I HAD 25 CHEFS. MONDAY I HAD 34 CHEFS. ..many of whom postponed travel and other holiday plans to be a part of the benefit. Organizers hope to raise about $80,000..all going to Salvation Army Hawaii, which just had a delegation return from the stricken area. 6:04 THEY SAY WHAT WE ARE SEEING IN THE MEDIA, IT'S MUCH WORSE IN THE PHILIPPINES THAN WHAT WE'RE SEEING AND SO THEY'RE ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO HELP, TO GIVE TO THE SALVATION ARMY. Not all the volunteers were leaders in the culinary or entertainment scene. Some were young people contributing strong backs and eager hands. 25:20 MANY OF THE WHITE COATS YOU SEE BEHIND ME AE BEING WORN BY CULINARY STUDENTS AT KAPIOLANI COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND LEEWARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE. THEY'RE ALL VOLUNTEERS. THEY WANTED WANTED TO BE HERE NOT ONLY TO WORK WITH SEASONED CHEFS BUT ALSO TO LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. 15:44 THEY REALLY WANTED TO HELP THIS EVENT NOT ONLY TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES OR FRIENDS BUT THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT WITH ALL THE CHEFS COMING TOGETHER. THEY WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO HELP THEM OUT. Giving back is infectious. Many of the people at this event, plan to volunteer again at next month's Kokua for the Philippines at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. At the Blaisdell, pamela young, KITV4 New.
