A new 30,000 square-foot fitness center is opening for military service members and their families at Camp H.M. Smith.
On Mar. 12, a traditional Hawaiian blessing will be held before tours of the facility begin.
The $25.4 million fitness facility replaces the old gym, which was built in 1944. It will include basketball and volleyball courts, cardiovascular/weight training equipment, and saunas. Power will be provided by solar panels meeting 100 percent of the facility's energy needs.
The fitness center is also open to Department of Defense civilians.
