The Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii is helping a family from Imperial, Calif. deal with the death of a loved one while he was visiting the islands.

According to the medical examiner, Kris Gungon, 31, died on Sunday while at Waimea Falls on Oahu's North Shore.

The cause of death has been deferred pending further investigation.

Honolulu fire officials say crews were called at around 4:15 p.m. for a missing person in the pond.  A man jumped in to save her but he didn't surface.

Other people at the scene helped the woman out.  The lifeguards at the park searched for the man but couldn't find him, according to fire officials.

Fire rescue personnel found Gungon's body in about 25 feet of water at around 5:30 p.m.

Thirteen family members arrived on Oahu Monday to be with Gungon's wife Denise.

The family released a brief statement.  They describe Kris as a great husband, father and family member.  "There is a hole in our hearts and we will miss him," reads the statement.

Gungon was here on vacation with his wife.  The couple arrived on Oahu last Thursday and they were planning to leave this Wednesday.
