KAILUA, Hawaii -

Due to a projected budget shortfall for the current fiscal year, Kailua officials will permanently closed the satellite city hall on Sept. 30.

“After careful study, the closure is fiscally prudent and the Kailua staff will be relocated to other full-service locations to decrease the wait time for the public,” said Sheri Kajiwara, director of the Department of Customer Services.

The number of transactions at the Kailua office averaged 16 customers per hour, which is low in comparison to other satellite city halls, official said.

The next closet satellite city hall, at Windward City Shopping Center, is a full-service office that provides driver license renewal service.  Kailua-area customers are encouraged to use online services and the mail where possible.
