Big Island police have identified the victim whose body was found Tuesday in waters off Kalapana in the Puna District.
She was identified Thursday through fingerprints as 25-year-old Brittany-Jane Royal, who had recently moved to Kalapana. Her last known permanent address before the move to Hawaii was in Tustin, Calif.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation as a murder.
