HONOLULU -

Billowing black smoke could be seen miles away in East Honolulu after a strange mishap on the University of Hawaii campus Saturday morning.

Fire officials say an air chiller began smoking while workers were using a torch to cut it into pieces and haul it away.  It happened around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning in a parking lot between Hamilton Library and Moore Hall.

Fortunately, no one was injured and no buildings were damaged.  The smoke was contained to the piece of equipment and fire crews were able to extinguish it within a couple of hours.
