The family of a New York teen who was swept out to sea on the Big Island has settled its lawsuit with a tour guide company.
Michael Madoff, the father of Tyler Madoff, says he hopes the tours will be run more carefully in the future.
The federal suit claimed tour guides were negligent for leading teens to a dangerous area back in 2012.
Tyler was part of a group hiking near the Big Island's Captain Cook monument when they stopped to rest at a tide pool and large waves washed Tyler away. Tyler's body was never found.
Terms of the settlement have not been released.
