Suspect arrested in fatal Pahoa stabbing released

A woman arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Pahoa has been released pending further investigation, police said.

The  victim, 42-year-old Shane "Ah-Chock" Campbell, was stabbed at a home on Kawakawa Street on Wednesday. Police found him at 10:44 p.m. with multiple stab wounds. Campbell was rushed to Hilo Medical Center where he died around 11:30 p.m.

Police arrested 27-year-old Manaolanalani Benford on suspicion of second-degree murder at the scene.

According to public records, Benford has a prior criminal record consisting of 15 misdemeanor offenses.  Most of those violations resulted from sentencing of earlier driving while intoxicated and underage drinking charges.
