A family feud turns violent on the Big Island.
A brother and sister are injured, allegedly at the hands of their father. That man is now under arrest.
Police were called to a Mountain View home Monday night for a domestic dispute that neighbors said was loud and violent.
"I heard him yelling 'I'm going to kill you'. He had full on rage. I heard him hitting something, and he just kept screaming 'I am going to kill you,'" said neighbor John Silva.
Neighbors said Jonathon Rodrigues Sr was the one screaming as he attacked his son Jonathon Rodrigues Jr.
The 24-year-old sustained serious injuries, but police officers said when they arrived he took off into the forest.
"His sister called me to look for her brother cause the dad chopped him with a machete. He ran into the bushes, and she didn't want him to bleed to death," said neighbor Tasha Nihipali.
"The son went through the bushes to a friends house and called 911," added Silva.
Rodrigues Jr. went to the hospital with numerous injuries to his head, body and hands.
There were so many that he didn't even know how many stitches he received.
He also said he doesn't remember what prompted his father's attack.
"I totally forget. You know, I was drunk so I don't know," said Rodrigues Jr.
Witnesses said the 24-year-old man was not the only one injured. Rodrigues Sr. also reportedly attacked his daughter.
"He cut the son, and then the daughter because she tried to stop him. She got a cut on her hand," said Silva.
According to police, the elder Rodrigues also threatened officers Tuesday morning.
After police surrounded his home, the Mountain View resident came out with a rifle and pointed it at officers.
Rodrigues Sr. was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and terroristic threats.
Rodrigues Jr. was also arrested Tuesday morning, after being released from the hospital, for two unrelated contempt of court warrants.
