HONOLULU -

Organizers of the 6th annual Independence Day at Maunalua Bay Festival announced Friday that an anonymous donor through the Rotary Club of Hawaii Kai will donate half of the $45,000 if the Maunalua Communities Foundation will cover the other half.

Earlier this week, the Maunalua Communities Foundation said that funding was short they would have to cancel fireworks for the community celebration at Maunalua Bay Beach Park.

"This is the first half of the angel(s) we were hoping for," said 2013 Chair Dianne Glei.

One person would not have to cover the entire half of $22,500 -- it could be several people, she added.  Any donors would receive special recognition.

Anyone interested in helping keep fireworks in the Fourth of July celebration may call Glei at 224-8357 or email her at dglei@hawaii.rr.com.
