the annual Martin Luther King Junior Parade. KITV4's Ashley Moser has more on why Dr. King's holiday is so special to the islands. Up at the crack of dawn...even on a holiday. Jita Riverta wakes up every morning for prayer service at the Hare Krishna temple. But today he spreads his message during the M-L-K parade. A message he says mirrors Dr King's. Jita Riverta 13:04-13:10 "MARTIN LUTHER KING... HE HAD A VISION AND THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE IT FULFILLED IS TO UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYTHING BELONGS TO GOD." And on this day honoring Dr. King, Riverta shared that message with thousands .. Marilyn Trussoni Wisconson Visitor 28:24-28:33 "IT GIVES EVERYONE A TASTE OF WHAT HIS LEGACY AND WHAT IT SHOULD BE AND WHAT HE STOOD FOR." Spectators watched over 80 floats and groups leave Magic Island for their march through Waikiki... ending at Kapiolani park. Whitney Dawkins Kailua Resident 25:30-25:35 "I THINK IT'S A REALLY REALLY GOOD PARADE. I LIKE TO SEE ALL THESE DIFFERENT NATIONALITIES OUT HERE ...WHAT MARTIN LUTHER KING STOOD FOR. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CHARACTER OF THE PERSON, NOT THE COLOR OF THE PERSON." Groups from Iskcon Hawaii...to the Royal Hawaiian Band...local fraternities and Governor Abercrombie all participated. Grand Marshalls Byron and Freida from Boston say the groups marching today would have made Dr. King proud. The civil rights leader was assassinated in 1968 at the age of 39. He would have turned 85 years old this past Wednesday.
