A Kailua-Kona woman says she saw the tail of a humpback whale hit a canoe Tuesday afternoon when she and her daughter were whale watching.
Sherri Carney was at the Keauhou Lookout when she saw a medium-sized whale tail go up and hit the kayak.
She ran down and went out to the rescue the man and retrieve the kayak.
Carney says the kayak was about 100 yards offshore.
