Hawaii County fire crews rescued a 53-year-old woman after fire officials say she slipped and fell 50 feet from a hiking trail in Laupahoehoe Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at around 1 p.m. near Old Laupahoehoe Point Road.

Witnesses say she fell off the cliff behind her and landed on another part of the trail.

The woman was airlifted to Hilo Medical Center.  He condition was not known but firefighters say she was awake and alert.
