Big Island fire officials say that a whale carcass was found off the Hawaiian Beaches Subdivision in Puna Wednesday.
Fire officials have contacted the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The whale was found offshore of Kahakai Boulevard in Pahoa after an initial call for a boater in distress at around 11 a.m.
It's about 40- to 50-feet-long and there are no beach closures. Decomposing whale carcasses are known for its foul stench.
A NOAA crew is on its way to investigate the whale's death.
