Residents in Waipahu on Leo-waena Street fought to save their neighborhood. We have NEW video of the 3 bedroom house in flames as neighbors and firefighters worked to fight the fire. KITV4's Nana Ohkawa has this update ... Black...covered in soot..with the roof caved in.. This is all that's left of the Waipahu house that caught fire yesterday afternoon. A neighbor captured the intense inferno at its worst. As the fire started people grabbed hoses--stood on their roof 1:48 and did what they could as the fire department worked to keep the fire from spreading to the houses next door. Eugene Moniz lives in the house on the right. His sons room melted, his mother's room with personal memorabilia ruined. He says he's just glad his elderly mom wasn't home at the time. 1037 WHAT IF NOBODY WAS HERE WHAT IF WE WASN'T HERE SHE COULD HAVE DIED WE DON'T KNOW SO IT WAS KIND OF SPOOKY KIND OF SPOOKY 1046 Neighbors say the house that burned down was abandoned for at least a couple weeks. 1006 BEFORE HAD ALL KIND OF PEOPLE ALL CHRONIC KIND OF PEOPLE BUT RECENTLY IT WAS QUIET SO I THOUGHT OH QUIET LAST COUPLE DAYS 1016 The total amount of damage from the fire is estimated to be 355-thousand dollars.
