Kauai fire rescuers airlifted a visiting couple from Hanakoa Valley Monday afternoon after a woman reported having a heart condition that prohibited her from hiking back to the trail head.
The woman did not require medical attention.
Kauai Police Dispatch originally received a report of a group of 12 people who were stranded on the Kalalau Trail near Hanakapiai Monday morning.
Rescuers hiked into the area but did not locate anyone needing assistance.
Personnel from the State Department of Land and Natural Resources later located the group past Hanakapiai, near the 8-mile landing zone in Hanakoa.
DLNR called for assistance when it was reported that one female, age 47, had a heart condition and was unable to complete the hike.
Rescuers aboard a fire helicopter flew into the area around noon and transported the woman and her partner back to the Kee Beach landing zone.
The rest of the party hiked safely back to the trail head without assistance.
